Meet the Busy Bees Teachers


Fun Fact: All of our children are Busy Bees graduates!

Marna Shields:


Marna is married and is the mother of three. Marna graduated from North Adams State College with a degree in Elementary Education and has a Master’s degree from Lesley College in Arts and Education. Before starting her family, Marna ran a Kindergarten afterschool program and taught first grade in Longmeadow. She has been with Busy Bees since 2004 and has been Director/Owner since its move in 2007. Marna loves spending time with her family, anything outdoors, fostering animals for Dakin animal shelter, and playing tennis.

Stephanie Hodges:


Stephanie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Hart School at the University of Hartford with liberal arts classes mostly in child development and zoology. She has worked for the Zoo in Forest Park for the past 6 years as the lead animal educator, performing animal presentations for Schools all over Massachusetts and Connecticut. She has two Busy Bees graduates of her own! Stephanie enjoys adventuring with her husband and 3 young children. They love to visit zoos and aquariums and spend lots of time exploring the outdoors!

Jeanie Hooper:


Jeanie lives with her husband and her dog, Fenway. She has three adult children who are Busy Bees Graduates. Jeanie has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology/Elementary Education from Westfield State University, and a Master's degree in Education with a concentration in Reading from Framingham State. She likes to read, cook, travel, and spend time with her family. She taught at Busy Bees for six years when her children were young, then taught fourth and fifth grades in Springfield for twelve years before returning to Busy Bees in 2008..

Christin LaFlamme:


Christin lives with her husband and two children who are former Busy Bees students. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and Elementary Education from Westfield State College. In the past Christin has taught kindergarten, preschool, and ran a home daycare. In her free time Christin loves running, spending time with her family and traveling. Christin started working at Busy Bees in 2012.

Laurel Manley


Laurel is married and the proud mom of three young boys! She holds a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Psychology from Westfield State as well as a Master’s in Special Education from Framingham State. Prior to starting her family, Laurel worked at the White Oak School in Westfield, MA and specialized in the education of students with severe language-based learning disabilities. She joined the staff of Busy Bees in the Fall of 2017. In her free time, Laurel enjoys writing, hiking, music, reading with her children, relaxing on Cape Cod, and spending as much time as possible outdoors.

Diane Peluso:


Diane has been teaching at Busy Bees since 2006. Before that she graduated from Russel Sage College with a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish. She then received her Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Central Connecticut State University. Diane taught both kindergarten and ESL (English as a Second Language) prior to teaching at Busy Bees. She is married and the mother to three children who all went to Busy Bees Preschool! She enjoys baking, camping and spending time with her family.

Shana Vaccaro:


Shana lives with her husband and their two children. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Springfield College with a certification in Early Childhood Education and a master’s degree in Education from Smith College with a certification in Elementary Education. Before starting her family, Shana taught both kindergarten and first grade in Farmington, CT and spent four years teaching kindergarten at Meadow Brook School in EL. In 2018, she started working at Busy Bees as a substitute teacher and this year she will teach on Mondays as well continuing to be a substitute. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, reading, taking walks and relaxing on the beach in Cape Cod.
